The 100% remote + low cost franchise

Today’s franchise is 100% remote — you can operate from your desk, the beach, or while motorcycling across Europe. What I like:

  • Huge industry
  • Recurring revenue
  • Very low cost — $49.5k

First let’s get into the founder’s story:

In 2013 Neel was working at a venture capital firm in Los Angeles.

He was tired of endless meetings, spreadsheets, and office politics. One day, he discovered a blog post about starting this business. Neel hired a local competitor, and it was a TERRIBLE experience.

Neel launched a modern-day service built for his generation, using marketing tactics and automation that no one else was using.

Two years later Neel quit his high-paying job to go all-in on the business. He also traveled the world, testing his ability to run it from anywhere in the world - Asia, South America, Europe, & Africa.

In 2020 Neels started franchising.

Business Model

The business is MaidThis

MaidThis specializes in residential & vacation rental cleans. What makes MaidThis different:

Fully Remote Operations: Franchisees can run the business from anywhere in the world. There’s no need for office space, vehicles, or cleaning supplies.

Recurring Revenue: The business focuses on two customer groups—vacation rental turnovers (Airbnb) and residential cleaning, for steady, recurring income.

Tech-Savvy Platform: Customers can book and manage their cleanings entirely online. Vacation rental owners sync their Airbnb calendars to automate cleaning schedules.

Why Vacation Rentals?

A residential homeowner gets their house cleaned 2 to 4 times per month.

An Airbnb host cleans the house after every guest's stay, which could be 5 to 10 cleans per month.

A cleaning service can provide additional services to hosts such as picking up fresh-baked cookies for guests, restocking toilet paper, putting all dishes away, taking the trash out, etc.

Many Airbnb owners don’t live near their vacation rentals, so they rely on local cleaning companies and handymen to help maintain the house.

As a MaidThis franchisee, you can build a great reputation within the Airbnb host community.

From Side Hustle to Full-Time

Neel helps franchisees map out their plan to escape Corporate America (just like he did)

Start the business as a side hustle, grow it, and then quit to go all-in on the business.

You’ll hire people from the Philippines or South Africa to post job ads, screen candidates, help with marketing, & handle customer service.

As the business grows you can expand into new territories while maintaining the flexibility of remote management. For example, their franchisee from Denver just bought Austin.

Earnings Potential

In Item 19 of the 2024 FDD, they provide the financial performance of Neel’s corporate location, which generated $1.25M in revenue in 2023 and $219k of “net revenue” minus royalties.

They also provide similar data for 5 franchisees who operated for 12 months in 2023.

Start-Up Costs & Ideal Franchisee

MaidThis is one of the lowest-cost franchises, starting at $49,500.

You are buying 10+ years of experience in operating & scaling a 100% remote cleaning business.

Neel is highly selective in choosing franchisees. In a recent tweet Neel said he's only approved 30 out of 2,000 franchisee applications.
